Renewable Energy & Technology - Batteries Page 3

With the batteries wired up I was then desperate to use them so the tidy approach was abandoned and I lashed things together. In the picture to the right you can see the battery and the new inverter (Victron 750 watt pure sine wave). Just out of shot is the Morningstar MPPT 60 controller that I wired up to 4 x 90 watt Solara pannels.

The system worked well, and I saw over 25 amps going into the battery.

Another addition to the system was the Rolls Hydro caps, you can see them in the picture opposite, and in detail below. These caps contain a catalyst that recombines the hydrogen and oxygen that is given off by the cells and converts it back into water which dribbles back into the cells.

The Rolls Hydro caps reduce the need for a battery box and venting and also help reduce the amount of top ups required.

I am still going to install some venting around the batteries just to be sure.

At the moment the wiring around the battery is temporary, I will update this page when the battery switch and fuse is fitted together with a neat wiring job. You can see that I have started to fix plywood to the walls so that I can mount all the control equipment in a tidy and understandable layout.

The cells all wired together, and the new inverter..
